Hello.
I am fairly new to fish keeping and this is the first post on this forum. My wife and I found ourselves looking at rainbow fish every time we visit the shops. Recently we came across the Melanotaenia Sahulensis and started to research it to see if it is compatible with our other fish but unfortunately could not find much information, so I hope that you might be able to help.
My tap water is Alkaline with PH 8 we keep the tank at temp of 24C. It is a planted 400ltr. containing White Cloud Minnows, Hengeli Rasboras, Emperor Tetras, Threadfin Rainbow, Celebes Rainbow and soon to be added (once large enough) Forktail Blue Eye Rainbow and Corys. In the future we are looking to add Bosmani and Dwarf Neon rainbow and Maybe Goyder River Banded rainbow (again, I am worried about its size as it can grow to 15cm and don't want it to eat the smaller fish).
I understand that this fish can grow to about 10cm. in length. We would like to know if it will be safe with the smaller members in the tank, what does it eat, optimal water temp, PH etc. I plan to have 8 fish, 3 male and 5 females.
Thanks for your help

Hi there. Thanks for posting. Sorry, I missed your post before. Did you find the answers you were looking for yet? My short answer is no. Mixing big rainbowfish with blue eyes usually is not recommended because the blue eyes cannot compete for food and/or get bullied by the rainbowfish. If you like rainbowfish, it's worth setting up a 2nd tank. Then you can have one focused on smaller fish, blue eyes....and one focused on rainbowfish.
You will probably get more answers if you post in our rainbowfish group on Facebook, called Rainbowfish Live. (If you haven't already? )

Thanks Lori.
I didn't find any useful information about the fish so decided to follow my gut feeling and last week I have ordered a 200ltr tank to house the small fish leaving the 400ltr for the big.
I didn't know about the Facebook group but I hardly log to F.B but might join.
Thanks again
