Hello all, New to keeping rainbows and the forum but have kept tropical fish for a number of years now. looking forward to learning more about the different species! I bought a group of 6 “Fly River rainbows” - M. sexlineata and have had them about a week and a half now. 2 males, 4 females, males starting to colour up, and I think are close to breeding age. They’re flashing and dancing for the females, very cool behaviour and colour changing, which I hope will get even better as they settle in and reach full adulthood. Anyone has experience with this particular species to know if the amount of orange im seeing on the males fins as they colour up is normal for the species? They may just be young and not fully coloured up. I recognize concrete ID’s are not possible, just curious if what I’m seeing aligns with other peoples experience. The store I bought them from imported them, and they are a pretty reputable LFS. I’m just not seeing the red on the lips and the amount of yellow I was anticipating. We’re more a green/blue with orange fins, bright orange headlight when flashing. Gorgeous regardless of what they are! imgur.com/a/PwQLhTz

Hi AH,
Looks like Sexlineata to me. I've kept them about a decade ago. By far my favourite rainbow of all that I have kept and bred.
Colours seem fairly typically for this species. Mine had more the redder lips. However I'm in Australia and ours could be from different localities. Yours could improve with age.
They like slightly softer water than other NG rainbows. Somewhere between 6.5-7.5. Temp 22-28C ideal 25C. Look fantastic with a group of Cardinal tetras in a display tank, and some cory's like Sterbai's. For breeding you would only need a 2 footer with a sponge filter. One pair or a trio works. A wool mop at one end or either end of the tank. One tip, juveniles fish should have at least 2 to 3 feeds per week of live foods to transition to healthy adults.
Enjoy these great fish. One of the best in tropical fish hobby.
